When you’re young you tend to think about what you want to do when you grow up. Then when you get older and enter into those years, you may be taught to believe that someone who has no plans to chase after a career is idle. Our world teaches you that to be busy is what is expected of every person and that if you’re not then something is wrong.

However, busyness can be the enemy of peace. Many think of being busy as productive and to some extent it can be. But busyness is also something that takes most of us away from the stillness of God’s voice and seeking Him. As we fill ourselves with the mental cares or worries of this world, and physical responsibilities, we can find less of a need or even less time to fill ourselves with God on a daily basis.

We were not built to be robots that have an infinite amount of might or energy on our own; our value is not based upon meeting a quota. Yes as believers we should be walking in supernatural strength that will give us endurance but it’s also more important to take times of rest mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually daily.

I believe that starting your day with God and ending your day with Him can be such a burden lifter. Reminding us of who we are in Christ and not in and of ourselves; leaning into receiving that power that is offered to every believer by grace through the Spirit that is sufficient for every day is so powerful.

Just a word of encouragement not to be too busy to lean into Him and experience His strength in your day. Make a plan just like you do for ordering your day and your routine, to make God your first and last stop everyday. Don’t beat yourself up if and when you’re getting started but miss your time. Just get up and do it again no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

No matter your schedule or responsibilities God’s grace is sufficient. Take hold of that promise in God’s Word to help you to plan your day around Him instead of planning Him around your day. I can attest that this one discipline has helped me tremendously over the years. As seasons have changed in my life, I still have that precious time in the morning with Him and at night as I may be praying myself to sleep or listening in my ear to Scriptures as I fall asleep.

The mindset necessary for spending time with God to profit your life depends upon you. If you have an expectation to receive what you need from God and you put your time into cultivating that relationship with Him, your perspective will shift and your life will change. You will be transformed as God reveals Himself to you in the Secret Place spoken of in Psalm 91. And as it’s been said, “Don’t try but do.” Suddenly, it will become something you need to do daily without hesitation.

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD shines over you…Then you will see and be radiant, and your heart will tremble and rejoice, because the riches of the sea will become yours and the wealth of the nations will come to you. (Is 60:1, 5)
